The Guy Behind Calvin Klien.
Yesterday I was at the Strand Bookstore and had a quick glance at the fashion section. I found a book titled Zack Carr. When I thumbed through it I realized he was the guy behind Calvin Klein, his right hand man.
Carr joined Calvin Klein in 1970 and helped create the Calvin Look till the early 90s. During that time he tried his hand at his own brand.
He passed away in 2000, but left behind many sketches, letters, and pictures chronicling his life.
He may have understood the Calvin Klein look better than Calvin himself. As you may already know, the more successful you become as a designer the more you’re pulled from actually designing. Your time and effort is spent marketing your brand.
Carr had a lot of demons he fought with throughout his life that is shown in letters collected and published by his brother.
You know I’m a fan of old and new fashion illustration and by reading this book and seeing all his sketches and inspiration inspired me to try the Carr & Calvin style. I’ll keep you posted.
