From the many interviews I’ve had with business owners and workers in the Garment District it all seems to boil down to the consumer. When the consumer buys from a designer that keeps their supplier and dollar in the US/NYC that is sending a powerful “vote” in what will happen to the district. People have become conditioned to consume, consume, consume and look for the cheapest price. We need to get back to supporting the local business and have the money recirculate instead of sending it to China. This is in spite of having to pay more for our goods. Understanding how it benefits you in the long run is key. Let’s look to ourselves not organizations with large committees or Bloomberg’s latest compromise. -Brandon
